The "must" future characters to have (The Gacha Guide 2)

This guide is written for Splatoon, a Darkwinter server platoon member. JOIN US NOW!

This guide is for the unreleased characters on the global server. When a character is released, she will be moved to the current characters section.

Not all characters are created equal. As of now, MICA has been pushing element-based team composition rather than role-based team composition. It means you need support/dealer/(healer) for each element. At least you'd want to deploy a team of two for each element to create dual-element teams.

However, unless you are willing to burn your hard-earned money diligently for every three weeks, it is not possible to obtain all characters.

If you are nearly F2P with just a monthly contract and the battle pass, the average free limited pulls are usually around 100. To get V0 (no dupe, just single copy) with 90% confidence, you will need about 145 pulls. Of course, if you pull more characters, it will eventually average out around 80 pulls. Thus, it is mathematically possible to pull every single character as long as you give up getting any signature weapons.

Unfortunately, just like many gacha games, there are characters who require additional dupes to function. Even worse, some of the "must" characters are such characters.

And remember the word "mathematically" above? It is entirely possible that your (un)luck is much stronger than mathematics. In the end, you will have to make a choice.

The same goes for dolphins and small whales. Unless you are truly a big whale (a.k.a willing to spend about 2000 dollar per month for V6-ing all characters. As soon as you spend more than available packages, the game suddenly becomes extremely expensive), you will also have to make some smart choices for getting additional dupes.

This guide is written to help you make decisions.

For a character, a single copy starts as V0. It requires a total of 7 copies to make a character V6.

For a weapon, a single copy starts as R1. It requires a total of 6 copies to make a weapon R6.

The order of characters appearing here is based on pure speculation and CN Server history.

1. Helen

- Needed or Not : A potential replacement of Suomi, if you can get her V1+.

- Required Vertebrae Upgrade : V1

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V1+

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade for whales : V6

- Signature Weapon : Not good. Qiuhua's Trailblazer and R5~R6 Mezzaluna outperform her own sig. And that is if you are going to obtain V6 to use her as a damage dealer. If you are going to stick with V1, just give her Pigeon.

- Comment : Once again, we are back to characters who require V1 to be functional. Don't bother pulling her if you can only afford V0. Just don't. Merely going from V0 to V1 increases her support effectiveness by 90%.

Other than that, she is essentially a straight upgrade from Suomi, in terms of the gunsmoke battles; she can give a massive 20% attack boost to her teammates. However, her way to give teammates a shield is not as easy as Suomi, so she can't completely replace Suomi for other high difficulty missions.

(After Helen came out, a prominent analysis guy at the KR GFL2 community quit analysing the game. The guide still follows the overall KR GFL2 community opinions and analysis by ReTempest from the CN community. However, I must admit that the overall confidence will be lowered from this point).

2. Phaetusa

- Needed or Not : Potential Peritya replacement. A good sub-dealer. Becomes a hypercarry at V6.

- Required Vertebrae Upgrade : V0

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V0+

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade for whales : V4R1+

- Signature Weapon : Good, but unlike Ullrid, you can use the BP sword if you like.

- Comment : She acts as a Peritya replacement, who satisfies assist attacks for charging Klukai's ultimate. Despite being a blade user, she has massive AOE attacks, just like other corrosion characters.

From the CN analysis guy's claim, V0 Phaetusa is about 24% stronger than V6 Peritya. If you love your corrosion team, she is a worthwhile investment. Otherwise, skipping her would not hurt much.

For the vertebrae upgrades, she pretty much peaks at V4, similar to Ullrid. V5~V6 upgrades do not give a large damage boost compared to other dolls, so you may stop at V4 and give her sig sword instead.

3. Loreley

- Needed or Not : A very good support for the new burn composition with Lewis. Provides exceptionally good survivability, not just for the burn characters. Can be used as a general supporter if V2+

- Required Vertebrae Upgrade : V0

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V2+

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade for whales : V6+

- Signature Weapon : It is a good stat stick. A big issue is that its attack boost conflicts with V2 Vector's attack boost buff. If your Vector is V2 (and if you are getting Loreley, your Vector really should be V2), the value of this weapon diminishes a lot.

That makes Samosek the best choice for her. It gives her better personal firepower than the sig.

However, if you are planning to get V2 to use her as a general support, then her sig can be good if the team she supports does not have the same attack buff.

- Comment : She is basically a fire version of Dushevnaya + Springfield. Designed as a premier support unit for the burn team, Loreley has a lot of things going on, such as attack boost, defense boost.... and, most importantly, pseudo invulnerability, which lets her teammates ignore 3 attacks entirely, which can be increased to 5 when you get V2.

And then we have her ultimate, which gives another layer of invulnerability on top of those 3 attack immune to Loreley and her closest teammate.

After V2, she mainly gains her personal damage more than supporting capabilities, so as a support character, you may stop at V2. That being said, her V6 is pretty strong that she is on par with Springfield or better.

What makes her great is that, unlike Dushevnaya and Springfield, Loreley is feature and performance complete from V0. If you really want to spend money, I suggest you buy her skin instead, unless you are aiming for V2.

4. Harpsy

- Needed or Not : Not needed..... but she is a robotic catgirl!!

Technically, she can outperform Peritya if she reaches V6, but it is going to take a very long time, and frankly won't make much difference.

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V1+

- Signature Weapon : As a stat stick, it gives better personal damage than Classified Manuscript, but worse than Svarog overall. Just like other standard weapons, you can buy one from the redundant store if you like.

- Comment : Unfortunately, she has little synergy with the rest of the corrosion squad. With V1, she can reliably apply debuffs, but that is pretty much all she can do. When she reaches V6, she can brute-force into her position with higher damage output than Peritya. However, even this is debatable since her stability damage is very poor.

5. Cheyanne

- Needed or Not : Exceptionally powerful damage dealer for the physical team.

- Required Vertebrae Upgrade : V0

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V1~V3R1+

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade for whales : V6R1+

- Signature Weapon : Exceptionally powerful. Highly recommended.

- Comment : As of 03/27/2026, Cheyanne is the second-best single-target damage dealer and has the highest possible damage potential to a single target, beaten only by Ots-14 (Black Groza).

At V0 she is about as 2x as strong as Voymastina for the single-target damage. At V6 she is still about 40% stronger(!!!) than V6 Voymastina for the single-target damage. Cheyanne indeed has the slowest movement speed (only 4 blocks, same as Mosin Nagant), but her skills have an unlimited range. Also, she has a neat ability to create an artificial high ground if there are too many obstacles between her and her targets.

And of course, her biggest problem is this "single-target damage." After two or three, Cheyanne cannot handle multiple enemies at once, unlike Klukai, Voymastina, and Black Groza. She is really made for bossing and bossing only. This makes her rather inflexible, hence she is not truly a must pull.... but she is too cute to pass if you ask me.

That being said, she is more than usable from V0; even at V,0 she is almost as good as older physical dealers with high vertebrae upgrades such as Daiyan and Ullrid in terms of the damage potential.

However, one thing I should remind you of is that both Daiyan and Ullrid are originally high-mobility units and can be very helpful for non-gunsmoke battles. After all, you do not want to bring Cheyanne to escape or escort missions.

6. Basti

- Needed or Not : A very good dedicated corrosion team supporter. Required if you are not getting Mechty for the corrosion team.

- Required Vertebrae Upgrade : V0

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V0R1

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade for whales : V3~V4R1+

- Signature Weapon : A decent weapon which gives teamwide 10+ damage boost. Recommended.

- Comment : She is a straight upgrade of Mechty. What Basti does is the same as Mechty, and she does better.

You will find she can literally paint the map with the corrosion tiles; she can do V3 Zhaohui's trick; she can teleport her teammate with her S1, which is a very good skill for navigating the map with a low mobile character.

One big improvement is the fact that Basti can nullify the negative effect of Lind's Radio Invitation. You can use the Radio Invitation on Basti with her Pain Dependency key, and Basti will be able to shoot, move, and use skills normally.

For better or for worse, her vertebrae upgrades are not so impressive. You may get her to V3 or V4, but the benefits of V6 rely too much on randomness, and the attack bonus is not so great. I suggest getting V0R1 and being done with her.

7. LiuShih

- Needed or Not : She is a decent dealer if you get V1+. Recommended if you do not have Nikketa.

- Required Vertebrae Upgrade : V1

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V1R1

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade for whales : V6R1

- Signature Weapon : Her sig is very unique, as the base attribute is health, not attack. Liushih's damage will drastically increase if you get one.

- Comment : You do not have to pull LiuShih unless you still do not have Nikketa or are thinking about fully building your hydro team. If that's the case, you may want to obtain her since she is a better version of Nikketa if you get her to V1.

If you have noticed, she is another character that really requires V1 to be useful, since you do get a massive 75% damage increase by going from V0 to V1. Otherwise, V0 LiuShih is slightly worse than V5 Tololo.

That being said, LiuShih brings her value through brute force. She is exceptionally strong when you get her to V1. Even more so if you also give her sig since her weapon increases her personal damage by about 45%, which is really an unheard of value for this game; no other sig weapon brings this drastic improvement as LiuShih's.

LiuShih is probably the strongest V1 character in the game. At V6, she matches with top damage dealers as Voymastina and Klukai, with her modkey. So damage-wise, she is top-notch if you are not too offended by her V1 requirement.

8. Sextans

- Needed or Not : A very good Electro/melee support. Becomes a main dealer on the melee-only team with V6.

- Required Vertebrae Upgrade : V0

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V2R1+

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade for whales : V6R1+

- Signature Weapon : It is very good. It gives a lot of buffs to electro/melee characters.

- Comment : She is a prelude to what MICA is doing to expand possible doll compositions. The recent introduction of OTs-14 (a.k.a Groza Altar) and the introduction of new tile mechanics show that there will be more possible doll compositions in the future.

For that, while she is an electro team support, Sextans allows you to create a melee-only team with her unique support capabilities, as well as AOE damage support with her passive.

Unless you want her to be a main carry, Sextans is feature-complete from V0. But her sig is also very good with strong buffs on all her teammates. Other than that, V2 does give her some damage boost and convenience, but it is not strictly needed.

Even if you are not interested in building a melee-only team, Sextans is still a very strong support/dealer hybrid that you do not want to miss her if you are building your electro team.

9. Ots-14 (a.k.a Black Groza, Groza Alter, etc)

- Needed or Not : Just Buy it™

~The Inflation continues in GFL2, not just one we have in real life right now!~

- Required Vertebrae Upgrade : V0

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V1R1+ or V3R1+

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade for whales : V5R1+

- Signature Weapon : Exceptionally powerful. Highly recommended, but V1 is more valuable, so get the vertebrae upgrade first before the weapon.

That being said, the weapon itself is very versatile and can be used with many other characters.

- Comment : The damage inflation continues with our returning(?) Black Groza. While she does not provide crazy convenience like Klukai or Voymastina, BG provides the flexibility of team compositions as an omni-element character and superior damage output that even exceeds Cheyanne in terms of single-target damage.

Now, she does have some gimmicks, mainly that her total damage output potential is dependent on her teammates' damage output. The more her teammates inflict damage, BG's damage gets higher. But her initial damage is so high that you would not see situations where she does worse than other traditional damage dealers.

Like Voymastina, her vertebrae upgrades are once again very smooth. While V3 provides the lowest damage increase in paper, it is compensated for by improved AOE capabilities. Thus, V1 or V3 would be the parking spot.

Interestingly, V4~V5 is where her damage increase peaks. While V6 is utilized on corrosion or burn teams, it does not give much raw damage increase. Technically, you can stop at V5R1 if you like, but I doubt people would do so since V6 is so close.

11. Nemesis: Gnosis

- Needed or Not : Surprisingly powerful despite being a freely available/upgradable character.

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V2+

- Signature Weapon : It is good. Just like the character, you can either get materials free from event or buy them.

- Comment : Despite being a free character, our new Nemesis is quite strong, and she is designed for RF-focused teams or typical corrosion teams. Based on the calculations, if you make her V6, she is actually on par or even exceeding Phaetusa, who is a limited doll!

Of course, if you want to upgrade her without spending money, the overall vertebrae leveling will be slow. You can buy her upgrade kits using redundant pieces or credit/shards purchasable-only packages.

Something to remember is that she is technically a different character from her purple version, so you have to start from scratch to build her. Also, while she is strong, she loses her defense-shredding skill from her purple version, which feels bad. At least you can freely switch back and forth if you need the purple version of her.

12. Soppo

- Needed or Not : A very powerful freeze sub-dealer/cypercarry, which allows some of the burn team members to supplement her freeze team. She is not really a burn character.

- Required Vertebrae Upgrade : V0

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade : V2R1+

- Recommended Vertebrae Upgrade for whales : V6R1+

- Signature Weapon : It is alright, but Black Groza's sig actually outperforms it by 10%. Also, the fully refined R6 Planeta comes very close to the sig's performance as well.

- Comment : As now, the biggest problem for her is that she requires Loreley (more specifically, V2R1 Loreley) and V2 Alva to function well. If you do not meet these requirements, Soppo's damage potential gets lowered.

Even if you do meet these requirements, you must realize you are potentially sacrificing your burn team's compositions so you can have Soppo in your freeze team. Unless a new character who can replace Loreley comes out, this will be problematic for using Soppo.

No, don't use her on pure burn team compositions. Unfortunately, Soppo has anti-synegy with Lewis, thus you will not like the damage numbers.

That being said, with all requirements fulfilled, Soppo is just slightly below Cheyanne, which is really good. If requirements are not met, she is on par with or below Robella on freeze team compositions.
